The World Tamil Badminton Federation (WTBF) was born from the futuristic thinking and planning of Mr. Kandiah Singam, the visionary behind the most anticipated Tamil international badminton event in the world. He founded WTBF in April of 2013 in Luzern, Switzerland. Mr. Singam identified a need for an athletic event that would bring together the global Tamil community for high-level competitive games while simultaneously building networking opportunities, friendships and supporting the health and well-being of players.
The first international tournament was hosted in Switzerland with the support of well-wishers from various countries: England, France, Canada and Switzerland. Starting with a committee of just a few change-makers, WTBF has grown rapidly, today spanning over four continents: Europe, Asia, Australia and North America. We are proud of our country branches and their work in Germany, Holland, Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Sri Lanka, India, USA, and Canada – establishing the WTBF as the premier global network for Tamil badminton.
Our global competitive platform is driven by a profound commitment to community and culture. We use badminton as the vehicle to connect generations, but our work extends to direct impact: Championing Development in Sri Lanka. From the federation’s early days, Mr. Singam was keen on establishing badminton programs in the North and East of Sri Lanka. His goal was to empower youth who lack access and face limitations, helping them nurture the love of the game and its values.
